What Is A Rider Development Clinic?
MMA Rider Development Clinics are an excellent opportunity for riders to get group lessons on going fast and riding smart, as well as gaining some experience at the various race tracks on the MMA circuit. The main emphasis of these clinics is to learn the basic techniques of riding that will allow you to feel more comfortable, go faster and have more fun on the bike. We won’t exactly teach you how to do the Bubba scrub, but we will teach you the same basic techniques that he used when he first started racing.
A typical day at a MMA Rider Development Clinic
Sign In- 9am
Riders Meeting- 10am
Topics covered include explaining the order of the day, going over safety procedures, as well as introducing the coaching staff. Most instructors are MMA pro racers who are as friendly as they are knowledgeable.
Practice
Practice sessions are broken down into bike sizes to eliminate the hazard of having mini sized bikes out there with the full sized bikes.
Teaching
Riders meet in the pits again to break into groups for the day’s instruction. Riders are broken into groups of approximately 10 to 15 people of similar skill level. Each group is given their own personal instructor for the day. Once the groups are made up, the track is broken down into sections and each group gets one section all to themselves. The day is spent rotating throughout the various sections of the track so that everyone has a chance to learn every obstacle on the track.
Some of the topics covered include proper body positioning and use of the controls, as well as techniques on how to handle things such as corners, starts, whoops, jumps, braking and acceleration.
Lunch Break
There is a lunch break halfway through the day so don’t forget to pack a cooler.
Teaching- Ends at 3pm
Fun Races- Ends at 4pm
If you haven’t had enough riding you can take part in the fun race. Each group gets a chance to test the skills they have learned and ride the whole track in a race against the other members of their group. There is no prize for first place, except for bragging rights of course! The day is brought to a close at 4pm.
****As with all MMA functions, safety is a high priority at MMA Rider Development Clinics. A medic safety team is on hand at every clinic to ensure the safety of all riders and to handle any bumps and scratches. The professionalism of both the medic team and the coaching staff ensures that all will have a safe and fun time. If you are looking for a way to improve your riding skills, look no further. MMA Rider Development Clinics teach you the skills needed to ride faster and safer, and build rider confidence in the process. See you there!****

Who Should Go To A Rider Development Clinic?
-EVERYONE riding a bike with two wheels!
-MMA Rider Development Clinics are open to riders of any age and any size of bike.
-Riders of any skill level up to, but not including racers who compete at the intermediate level, can attend.
-Riders that are new to the sport and have never raced are highly encouraged to attend a few clinics before giving racing a try.
Even if racing is not in your future but you are looking to improve your riding skills, clinics have a lot to offer. MMA Rider Development Clinics offer group instruction for multiple skill levels, we can accommodate everyone from the first time bike rider to the competitive Junior racer looking for a championship.
If you are new to the sport, clinics are a great way to get your feet wet before you jump right into racing.
It is recommended that you try a few clinics before you show up at a race.
What Is Required To Participate?
You must hold a valid CMRC race license or purchase a $30 day pass.
Feel free to contact the MMA Clinic Coordinator through the link on the contacts page.
Riders will be allowed to participate in a clinic if they have a good quality motocross helmet, goggles, a pair of boots with stiff ankle support and of course a bike.
Although the MMA follows the CMRC rulebook, and thus carries strict requirements for riding gear in a race, we realize that there are many people that participate in Rider Development Clinics that don’t race or aren’t totally committed to purchasing a full set of riding equipment just yet. We do not recommend riding without a full set of riding gear. Those three items are mandatory as safety is a top priority.
It is highly recommended that riders invest in quality safety gear such as a helmet, boots, chest protector, neck collar/brace, goggles, and proper jersey/pants/gloves. It’s like wearing a seat belt, it just makes sense.
How To Register For a Rider Development Clinic
Entry fee for attending a clinic is $40. Pre-entry is required for the clinics to ensure that we get enough instructors. Entries must be received by Thursday at 5pm for a Saturday clinic. Although entries will still be accepted after the Thursday deadline, a $10 late fee will be added for a total of $50.
There are two ways to enter a clinic: filling out the online entry form at the bottom of this page or emailing your entry to the MMA clinic coordinator. Please take the time to fill in every column that applies to you. If you are choosing the email method to enter, the following information is needed: full name, phone number, bike size, skill level, and CMRC license number. If you do not have a CMRC license number and will be purchasing one at the clinic, please indicate so in your message. If you’re attending your first clinic and are under 18 years of age, please download, print, and fill out the minor participant waver and have a parent fill out the parental waiver (both available under the “documents” page). If you have any other questions please feel free to contact the MMA Clinic Coordinator through the link on the contacts page.
Instructors
Are you a Pro? The MMA wants you! We are looking for MMA pros to instruct at our Rider Clinics. The MMA has added a new program that is designed to help both the instructors and the students. How many times have you seen a Manitoba rider on TV when Speedvision shows the Canadian Nationals? Not too many you say? You’re right. Manitoba has a lot of talent in the pro class, but rarely does that talent ever get showcased on a national level. We want to change that, and here’s what we are going to do.
If a rider instructs at two or more clinics this year, he is eligible to have his entry fee reimbursed for up to two entries into a CMRC National event (excludes Morden round).
That’s right, you teach at a clinic and we will pay your entry fee for you to go to Calgary or Regina, or any other non-Manitoba National. Just provide proof of entry upon your return and the money’s yours. How does this program help the students? It is the hope of the MMA that this program will attract Manitoba’s elite top riders to come and instruct…. and higher quality instruction is in the best interest of everyone. Riders interested in instructing should contact the MMA Clinic Coordinator through the “Contacts” link.
